The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien, is the first volume of a trilogy known as The Lord of the Rings. Many know this name due to the movies made of the books, staring Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins. Taking place in the imaginary world of Middle Earth, Tolkien has successfully created an immersive fictional world with lovable heroes as well as despicable villains, plot twists and humor, tragedy and triumph. A sequel to his novel, The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring takes place 60 years after the events of its predecessor. While there are a few shared characters between The Hobbit and LotR (as the series is known by its fans), such as the wizard, Gandalf the Grey and the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (for a short time), and familiar locations, such as Bag End in the Shire and the Elven city of Rivendell, Fellowship introduces a plethora of new and exciting characters, and I can assure you that there is somebody for everybody to relate to. Fellowship starts you off on the three-part journey of one Mr. Frodo Baggins, nephew of The Hobbit‘s hero, Bilbo. Having inherited the One Ring from his uncle, it is now up to Frodo and his friends to destroy the Ring before it can get back into the hands of the wicked Sauron and his forces. Fraught with numerous perils and seemingly impossible challenges, the story of this unassuming hobbit from Bag End will have you hooked until the last page, not only of The Fellowship of the Ring, but of the whole trilogy from start to finish.
