OXPL Accessibility Initiative

As you may have heard OXPL has received grant funding to better support community members with disabilities.


This page will be the hub for our website with all updates related to the grant.


Our biggest goal is to make sure that YOU are heard, so we have made sure to create as many avenues as possible to get your feedback. Be sure to let us know if there are even more ways we can be connecting!


TIMELINE

We have created a tentative timeline of what we hope to achieve during the course of this grant implementation. Plans may change as we navigate through this process.


  • May:

    • Collect feedback from the community and organize results.

    • Purchase a new, more accessible, curbside pickup cabinet.


  • June:

    • Host a Community Conversation to present what changes we have made and collect further feedback.

    • Create a final plan for grant execution, which we will be sure to make available here.

    • Start to order books, items for our Library of Things, and other supplies.

    • Launch a homebound delivery service with a small test group of residents.


  • July:

    • Start implementing our Pop-Up Library services.

    • Plan educational and recreational programs relevant to the experiences of people with disabilities.

    • Expand homebound delivery.


  • August:

    • Create an interim report to observe what has been working and where we can improve.


  • September and Beyond:

    • Implementation will be in full swing! We will continue adding new books and other materials, hosting programs, purchasing items for our Library of Things, doing outreach, and perfecting homebound delivery.

    • We will likely begin asking for final feedback in late fall/ early winter. This will help us gage the strengths and weaknesses of our project and give us some great insight into what services should continue and/or be adjusted.

During the month of May, we will be collecting your feedback and opinions, adjusting our plans as needed. On Thursday June 5th at 6pm (both virtually and in person at the library) we will host a Community Conversation to present our updated plan based on all of your feedback!
