About the event
Join us for the first session of this two-part virtual series exploring how poetry reflects and shapes the American story with local poet Lisa Low . This 90-minute program will introduce major poets from the colonial period through the 19th century, including Anne Bradstreet, Phyllis Wheatley, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and others. Together, we will examine how their work captures key moments in American history—from early settlement and independence to the expanding nation of the 1800s.
Participants will receive copies of selected poems to read along, with accompanying images that give additional historical context. Library staff will provide Zoom support throughout the session.
