About the event
Manufacturing capabilities are essential for any war effort. No matter how capable soldiers are, they will need an endless amount of support in the form of supplies. Connecticut stepped up to the challenge and manufactured a wide array of supplies. Pratt & Whitney provided machinery and support equipment. The New Haven Arms Company provided the Henry Rifle. The Colt Manufacturing Company supplied several different types of arms and munitions. Waterbury, also known as the "Brass City," supplied most of the brass buttons used on the Union's uniforms, while Mystic Shipyards provided ships for the Navy.
Morgan O’Brien is a Connecticut Historian with a Masters degree in American History from American Public University. She has interned for CT Congressman Jim Himes, worked as an Architectural Historian at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and is now a freelance researcher, writer, and educator teaching the public about American history.
