A few months ago we made an announcement that certain cell phone carriers will no longer allow text notifications to come through alerting you when a book is due or when a hold is ready to be picked up. Our main software vendor found a new texting service called Shoutbomb that will replace traditional SMS text messaging.
If you are enrolled in text notifications, you may have received a welcome message from Shoutbomb that looks something like this:
“Welcome to Oxford Library text message notifications provided by Shoutbomb. Please add this number to your contacts and log into your account using this link to manage the notifications.”
Enrolling in text notifications will enable you to receive courtesy pre-overdues on items due soon and hold ready for pickup notices. You can also text the following keywords for the following actions:
Keyword | Reply |
MYBOOKS | Receive statuses of your current checkouts. |
HOLDS | Suspend or activate receiving hold ready for pickup text messages. |
RENEW | Suspend or activate receiving texts for courtesy pre-overdues. |
IOWEU | Sends a total of fines owed on your account. |
HELP | Sends a complete list of keywords you can use to interact with ShoutBomb. |
If you would like to enroll or opt-out of Shoutbomb text notifications, please call the library at 203-888-6944 or email staff@oxfordlib.org.
